Sunflower seed oil has a golden yellow color and a mild pleasant flavor. The presence of tocopherols (vitamin E - 820 mg of vitamin E/kg of oil) acts as a favorable aspect in the reproduction functions with an accentuated antioxidant action.
When it is obtained by the cold pressing process, it is source of essential bioactive fatty acids and vitamin E. The major constituents of this oil are linoleic or omega-6 (66.8%) and oleic or omega-9 (20.9%) fatty acids. Its beneficial effects can be seen in all cardiovascular and degenerative diseases. It is rich in omega-6, which acts on the skin and the nervous and endocrine systems.
Overall it has a positive effect in cases of hypercholesterolemia and problems related to the central nervous system, in particular multiple sclerosis, as it contains the nervure fatty acid.
Topically, it favors re-epithelialization and has emollient proprieties.
It is good oil at mealtimes as it is light and runny and is especially delicious on salads and with cold dishes.
A daily consumption of 5 to 10 grams is recommended, which is the equivalent of 1 to 2 dessertspoons per day. Each gram of oil contains 9 calories.
